Wedderspoon Manuka Honey From Hive to Home
Ever wondered about the process behind creating Wedderspoon Manuka honey? Let us enlighten you!
As the sole distributor of Wedderspoon in the UK, Natural Health Ltd takes great pride in the careful craftsmanship of their Manuka Honey. It owes its existence to the diligent honey bees and the breathtaking landscapes of New Zealand. Now, let’s dive into the journey of Wedderspoon Manuka Honey from hive to home.
New Zealand: The Source
What makes New Zealand so special? Well, at Natural Health Ltd, we believe in going straight to the source. The native Manuka flower, with its captivating blush pink and flashy fuchsia blossoms, thrives in New Zealand. The Manuka bush, known as Leptospermum scoparium, also plays a crucial role in our honey bee’s mission.
Unlike other producers, Wedderspoon doesn’t rely on cultivars or Manuka plantations for harvest. Instead, their honey bees feast on wild Manuka blossoms nestled amidst the crystal-clear waters of Lake Wakatipu and the majestic glaciers of Mt. Cook in New Zealand. Each harvest is a unique reflection of the diverse New Zealand environment, influenced by rain, sunlight, wind, and snow. This natural process gives rise to slight variations in Manuka Honey’s colour, which we embrace. We avoid artificial colouring or processes that would homogenize each harvest, staying true to Mother Nature’s intent.
The Crucial Team: Honey Bees
At Natural Health Ltd, we understand that it’s not just about the location; the team is equally crucial. Our honey bees are an integral part of the Wedderspoon family. They diligently collect nectar from Manuka blossoms, infusing our Manuka Honey with exceptional superfood properties. This natural process, reflecting Mother Nature’s design, ensures that every jar of Wedderspoon Manuka Honey is pure, authentic, and untainted. The result is a richly coloured, flavourful Manuka Honey brimming with living enzymes.
Careful Harvesting and Processing
When it’s time for harvest, Wedderspoon beekeepers prioritise the health of the bee colonies. They extract raw comb swiftly and discreetly from each hive, minimizing any disturbance to the bees. We always leave a portion of honey untouched, providing nourishment for the bees during the winter season.
Once harvested, our Manuka Honey undergoes a short 40 mile journey to the Wedderspoon factory, conveniently located near the hives. At the factory, warm air is gently circulated around the raw honey using large fans. This process delicately heats the honey, transforming it into a liquid and allowing natural impurities to be filtered out. They take great care to avoid boiling or exposing the honey to fire. The temperature is carefully controlled, never exceeding the natural warmth of a hive. This gentle treatment preserves the honey’s inherent vitality and flavour throughout the processing stage.
Quality and Authenticity
At Natural Health Ltd, our top priority is offering customers the most natural, unaltered, and premium-quality Manuka Honey available. To achieve this, the manuka Honey is meticulously harvested, packaged, and labelled in New Zealand. It also adheres to the highest standards of quality and authenticity.
Before any jar of Manuka Honey is dispatched, it undergoes rigorous testing in independent laboratories. These tests ensure that every jar of Wedderspoon Manuka Honey meets or exceeds the stringent scientific standards for genuine Manuka Honey set by New Zealand’s Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI). These standards require the presence of specific chemical compounds and DNA from Manuka pollen.
Only after undergoing extensive quality testing, Wedderspoon’s Manuka Honey is shipped, ensuring that you receive nothing but the finest. It’s our promise, as Natural Health Ltd, to deliver the best of the best to you.
